Tribute to Eugenio Montale – August 6

📖 “Poetry is a form of resistance.”

With these words begins the special event Tribute to Eugenio Montale, taking place on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 9:30 PM at the Fishermen’s Pier in Monterosso al Mare, Cinque Terre.
This evening honors Eugenio Montale on the 50th anniversary of his Nobel Prize and the 100th anniversary of the publication of his iconic poetry collection “Ossi di seppia”.

Montale and Cinque Terre: when landscape becomes poetry

Part of the cultural series “Cinque Terre – A Sea of Books”, the event celebrates the deep bond between Montale and the rugged yet luminous Ligurian coast.

A bond made of rocks, silence, light, and inner restlessness—elements that shaped one of the most powerful voices of 20th-century Italian poetry.

Exclusive book launch: Artists in Cinque Terre

During the evening, attendees will enjoy the exclusive preview of the new book “Artists in Cinque Terre”, curated by Emanuela Cavallo and Marco Ferrari, published by Laterza and promoted by the Cinque Terre National Park.

The book explores the connection between art and landscape, from the Macchiaioli painters like Telemaco Signorini, to Boetti and Pistoletto of Arte Povera, and abstract reinterpretations by Birolli.

Guest speakers and contributors

The event will feature talks and insights from:

  • Lorenzo Viviani, President of Cinque Terre National Park

  • Francesco Sassarini, Mayor of Monterosso

  • Stanislao de Marsanich, President of the Literary Parks

  • Cristina Currarini and Carlo Torricelli, from Montale Literary Park

  • Marco Ferrari and Emanuela Cavallo, curators of the book

This is a unique opportunity to discover how art, literature, and landscape intertwine in Cinque Terre, transforming it into a true place of the soul.
