Here, Montale – 100 Years of Ossi di seppia
In the centenary of the publication of Ossi di seppia, the Pro Loco of Monterosso celebrates Eugenio Montale with a unique event in the symbolic place where it all began.
Monterosso is not just a setting in Montale’s poetry: Monterosso is Montale. The poet’s words, images, and silences are rooted in the beach of Fegina, among the vineyards, the dry-stone walls, and the sound of the “sea breeze muttering among the rocks”.
A program full of emotion and memory
During the evening, archival images, voices, sounds, and readings will bring the poet’s voice back to life:
🎙️ Roberto Alinghieri will give voice to Montale’s texts
📖 Cristina Currarini will lead the readings
🗂️ The archive is curated by Anna Canitano Aragno
🎭 With artistic supervision by Angela Betta
The event is free and open to everyone, born from the community itself—by those who remember Montale sitting in silence, watching the horizon.
More than a tribute: an invitation
This is not merely a celebration. It is an invitation to reread the landscape, to walk again through the Ligurian vineyards, listening to nature through the poet’s eyes.
💬 “Because Montale didn’t just write about Monterosso. Montale is Monterosso.”
A landscape that speaks
Fegina, with its beaches and views, is more than a backdrop: it is the living heart of Montale’s poetry. The creaking pulley, Esterina’s dive, the “bones” gathered among seaweed and shells—every element is still here, just as it was, ready to become word, sound, and memory.
To find yourself here, Montale, is to perceive the invisible that lives within the landscape, the stones, and the sea. It’s an experience that speaks to the soul, that connects literature and territory, making culture come alive.
